Maroro is Tahitian for "Power and Strength" In Maori mythology the Maroro is a small sea dwelling flying-fish. During their sea voyages, the Maroro would fly across the bows of their vessels. Beginning its flight from up to thirty feet below the surface of the water the Maroro would emerge at high speed and fly gracefully through the air, shimmering in the tropical sunlight.
We are located in Westport Park, adjacent to the Port Marina.
HISTORY
The club started in October 2004 with guideance and support from Coffs Coast OCC. Back then we had only 1 borrowed canoe & a couple of members. With Coff's support we recently became affiliated as a stand-alone Club adopting the name Port Macquarie-Maroro Outrigger Canoe Club. Now the Club now has 4 competitive 6 person canoes & about 30 members! Port Macquarie-Maroro OCC caters to all levels of paddlers. The club participates in many regattas in NSW & Qld. during the summer months.
Outrigger Canoe paddling is an exciting, social way to get and stay fit whilst taking in the beauty of the Hastings River and Port Macquarie coastline!
!! We are always on the look out for new and experienced paddlers !! |
